I left Westport not really knowing where I was going to go and deciding to let karma take it’s course. Heading south down the west coast, the days passed in a blur of rain and gale force winds, fortunately mostly blowing from behind, if you’ll pardon the expression. The huge Southern Alp mountains were on my left, towering above, unseen because of the low clouds but I could feel their presence. Scottish Hills were all named by my Gaelic speaking forebears, often with names that described their appearance. All sizes of hills were named like this. My New Zealand map didn’t even name the hills in the Alps unless they were over 2000 metres! New Zealand was’t inhabited until 1000 AD and Europeans didn’t really make a mark until the 1800s. Tuesday and Wednesday were spent travelling the road, stopping now and again to pull on waterproofs, leap out and gawp at some other wondrous thing. Things worth gawping at: Greymouth – not nearly as boring at it sounds. Great museum. Turner Walkway – I thought I was at last going to see those damned elusive little blue penguins. Walking through the tropical rainforest to the shore I was disappoiunted yet again, although I did see their tracks this time (I have a photo!) Pancake Rocks and Blowholes – amazing! Rich’s travel blog entry: "After dropping my car off in Banff, I made my way to Kelowna on the bus, more as a stopover on the way to Whistler than anything else. What struck me immediately was the heat, a whopping 35 degrees, so after checking in at the hostel, I got changed into my summer gear, including the flip-flops-from-hell that cut my feet to shreds whenever I wear them! I had a pleasant evening on the Saturday, as bands played until late in the park next to one of the beaches, so I just resided there for a few hours with what seemed like the rest of the town’s population. Then on Sunday I just mooched around the other parks and beaches, enjoying a bit of rest and relaxation, before resuming my journey to Whistler the next morning… When I arrived in Whistler, I was surprised to find that the hostel I was staying at was 6km away, but a helpful old guy told me where to catch the bus, so it was no big deal. I’d deliberated about whether to stay in this one or not, but it turned out to be the best decision of my trip, as the hostel was perched on the edge of Alta Lake with a stunning view out towards the mountains. In addition, I met some nice people during my time there… Amelie, a girl from Germany, immediately caught my eye, and we ended up spending most evenings together, usually (and bizarrely) playing "Yahtzee" or "Where’s Waldo?" on the <b>…</b>

She has shared Neo for 1 1/2 years and they have come so far, and i feel lucky to have been able to watch how far they progressed. Neo was quite new when Milly joined so they learnt together. Her savvy has increased loads, and even though they have had some bad and rough times, they good times really make up for them all. I could write pages and pages about these two, but i dont want to bore you all, but basically, they were amazing. I have only started properly talking to Milly since January, but i have to say she is now a close friend of mine and it feels like ive known her forever, she is just jokes tbh & together we are "flipping hilarious" Milly now has a new share at a different yard, she is a 13.2hh Newforest mare and is rather cute! She is hoping to continue doing Parelli with her and i can tell they are going to get on so well, and i havent even met her yet! But i will, one day Basically i love you Milly, you and Neo have come so far in the amount of time you have been together, you battled through the tough times and came out the other side better than ever. I will be coming to see you and Meg lots, you cant live without an Izzy in your life and I will make sure you come down the yard to visit, and i may let you have a play with my pony if i am feeling kind… xxxx PS, sorry this is short.
